OC Alerts Emergency Notification

The Town of Carrboro (in conjunction with Orange County, the Town of Chapel Hill and the Orange Water and Sewer Authority) has changed emergency notification systems to OC Alerts adminstered by Everbridge - a high-speed, emergency notification service. Town officials now can deliver pre-recorded emergency messages by telephone to targeted areas or to the entire town in case of an emergency that requires immediate action.

All landlines have automatically be uploaded to the system, however, if your primary contact number is a cell phone, you MUST re-register to receive emergency notifications.

All businesses are encouraged to register their phone numbers.

Residents should also register if:

  • They have unlisted phone numbers.
  • They have changed their phone numbers or their addresses within the last year.
  • They use cellular phones as their primary home phones.
  • They would like to receive notifications by email or SMS messaging (text message).

OC Alerts is a geography-based system that uses street addresses to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification calls. No post office box numbers will be accepted.

This system will only be used for emergency purposes.
