ℹ️ Storm Recovery Support: Orange County residents who are facing a housing crisis as a result of Tropical Storm Chantal can call 919-245-2800, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to speak with a social workers about local support that may be available. Most resources require financial eligibility determination, and documentation of damage will be needed. 

ℹ️ Financial Support from the American Red Cross will be available to qualifying disaster survivors on Friday, July 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Orange County Main Library at 137 W. Margaret Lane in Hillsborough and on Saturday, July 19 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Drakeford Library Complex, 203 S. Greensboro St. in Carrboro. You may also call 1-800-RED-CROSS for assistance.

Damage Reporting
Residents are asked to report non-emergency storm damage which will be shared with the National Weather Service and will help determine areas that may require additional assistance or resources. Reports can be made via Orange County’s online tool.

Storm Debris Disposal Options for Carrboro Residents
Carrboro residents have two convenient options for disposing of bulk waste and storm-related construction & demolition (C&D) debris: self-hauling to Orange County Waste and Recycling Centers or curbside collection by the Town. Both methods are designed to support safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible disposal. Learn more on our Public Works webpage.

If Your Home Has Sustained Damage
If your home has sustained damage from Chantal, you may need to obtain a building permit through the Town of Carrboro's permitting portal, PIPER. Repairing your home is a priority, and obtaining a permit will allow you to do so safely and in accordance with the State Building Code.

Apply for a “Residential Repair” permit online.
