Hello from the Carrboro Youth Council!
Whether you are a new or prospective member, we hope this basic information will give you a sense of who we are and what we do, and what it means to be a part of Youth Council. Please see our full Bylaws and Policies document as well for a more comprehensive guide to how we work and our rules.
What is the Carrboro Youth Council?
We are a service-oriented group based out of the Town of Carrboro Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Resources Department dedicated to improving the community through service, town involvement, and recreational events. We are a group of dedicated leaders, of helpers and organizers, of volunteers and friends. If you are a high school student in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area looking for a way to be involved in your community, if you are a leader, if you love volunteering, then Carrboro Youth Council is for you!
What does the Carrboro Youth Council do?
As a service group, one of the main staples of Youth Council is volunteering, in the community and through the Carrboro Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Resources Department. But we take service beyond volunteering as well, creating programs that we implement in the community to provide services and fun! We also stay engaged and connected to our community through speakers, and through our involvement in the Town of Carrboro Recreation Advisory Board, on which our President is the Youth Council representative. We are still a relatively new organization, with only six years under our belt, another one of our staples is the continual improvement and promotion of Youth Council itself! Whether it is updating our website, revising our policies, or trying to stay up to date with the latest social media J, making sure that we are the best we can be is a big part of who we are.
What does it take to be a part of Carrboro Youth Council? What are the benefits of becoming a member?
Being a part of Youth Council is a commitment. We are looking for interested, dedicated leaders, not those looking to simply check off required volunteer hours. We want our group to reflect our dedication to service, leadership, and community - if this sounds like you, consider Youth Council! In Youth Council, you can:
- Learn new skills
- Gain work experience
- Discover new talents
- Meet new people
- Build on your high school resume
- Help others in the community
- HAVE FUN!
How do I join Carrboro Youth Council?
We would love to have you join us! You can find our application on our website. Also, please feel free to email our supervisor Galen Poythress, with any questions.
